What Did I Really Learn?
On college, communication, and learning to lead
Arizona Tech Week 2026
CFO & Co-Founder · Clinix AI
I learned finance sitting with a CFO after hours. Now I'm the one signing off on every dollar, and we're building the tool that gives medicine back its soul.

Origin
In 2015, a friend of mine, a filmmaker with a production company in Atlanta - looked at me and said, 'You're our CFO.' I was 25. I had a business degree from Arizona State, sure. But what I'd actually learned in school was how to lead, communicate, and bend the rules just enough to get where I needed to go. The real finance education came from six months of sitting with a CFO after work, every afternoon, just absorbing.
I said yes. And I got thrown headfirst into the world of indie film production, managing budgets across Atlanta and LA, negotiating with actors over whether they'd accept comfort-plus instead of first class, and paying background extras a hundred dollars and a hot meal for four hours of their time. The film, Breathe, is on Tubi right now.
After that, nothing in finance scared me again. Film has a million variables. Healthcare has fewer. Once you've kept an indie production on budget, counting nickels in a medical startup feels manageable.

My First Break
CFO at 25: thrown in, no playbook
Present
Clinix AI is a clinical AI tool for medical providers, and we started it in 2024 to solve one of American healthcare's most urgent problems: providers are spending more time on paperwork than on patients.
We built ambient listening technology that sits in the room, tracks only the provider's voice, auto-generates clinical notes, assigns billing codes, and handles revenue cycle management - all without the doctor lifting a finger. If an insurance company rejects a claim, the AI fights back. If a patient needs an MRI that the chart hasn't flagged yet, the system catches it.
We're HIPAA compliant. We're SOC2 Type 2 certified. And my co-founders Matt and Garrett and I have bootstrapped - or as I like to say, gone barefoot - every single dollar of it.

The Provider Shortage
The crisis Clinix AI was built to fix
Future
The first agentic AI EHR.
By end of summer, we release the tool I believe changes the game. An electronic health record that doesn't just store data - it runs the entire administrative layer of a medical practice on its own. No scheduling errors. No missed diagnostic codes. No front desk scrambling to close out the day. The AI handles it, audits it, and makes sure every provider gets paid for every code they've earned.
The bigger vision: medicine that actually prioritizes longevity - the tools that keep people healthier longer should not be reserved for the wealthy. Clinix AI is how we make sure the providers delivering that care can actually do their jobs.

Why every builder needs to speak CFO
“After film production, going into finance and other realms is so much easier, because there are fewer variables. Film made everything else feel manageable.”
